In April 2006 I had the great
good fortune of returning to Asia to share Anusara in Taiwan,
and begin new relationships with Singapore and Tokyo.
I
was assisted by my partner, Andrew Rivin. We thoroughly enjoyed
our time with all the students. This photo shows us with some
Indian yoga teachers we met in Singapore at Pure Yoga, where
Anusara is being taught by Bo Srey originally from the Bay Area.
Shyam, Arun and Kumaran were delighted to see how to apply the
Universal Principles of Alignment to their advanced backbends as
demonstrated by Andrew, who is old enough to be their father.
Here we are with Mariko, our translator
and Akira, the studio owner from Tokyo, Japan. This was the
first Anusara workshop at the Watamoto studio.

We found the students very welcoming and
open. They were especially interested in the meaning and the
philosophy of Anusara as well as the new and exciting Principles
of Alignment. Outside the classroom, we had a fun challenge
doing simple things like ordering food in restaurants where
there are no English translations on the menu. It was an
adventure and we even learned a little Japanese that way. (Food
will do it every time.) Space, the studio in Taiwan, is making
huge progress with their Anusara program and they are open to
hiring American teachers who wish to spend six months to a year
living there. It was amazing to return there for a second visit
after a year and reap the benefits of the great work that our
Anusara teachers Bruce Bowditch and Chris Arcucci have been
doing there. We had a marvelous time and plan to return again
next fall.
